How PE Coated Paper Cup Blanks Are Made?
PE-coated paper cup blanks (also known as base paper or cup stock) are the core semi-finished material for manufacturing high-quality disposable paper cups. The density of the base paper, the uniformity of the PE coating, and the precision of the die-cutting directly determine the finished cup’s rigidity, heat resistance, and leak-proof performance.
As a professional manufacturer of food-grade PE-coated paper and custom cup blanks, we implement strict quality control across every stage of production. Through rigorous raw material management and precision die-cutting processes, we effectively help global clients avoid common paper-jamming issues during the cup-forming process.
Production Process

Step 1: Premium Food-Grade Base Paper and PE Thermal Extrusion Coating
We use 100% virgin wood pulp base paper that complies with FDA and EU food-contact standards. Using advanced thermal extrusion equipment, we apply molten PE resin evenly across the paper surface.
Single-sided PE coating: Suitable for cups holding hot coffee, hot tea, and other hot beverages.
Double-sided PE coating: Designed specifically for cold and iced beverage cups, effectively preventing condensation penetration and leakage.
Customizable specifications: Base paper weights range from 150 gsm to 320 gsm; supports single-sided or double-sided PE coating.

Step 2: Eco-friendly Flexographic Printing
The PE-coated paper rolls are fed into high-speed flexographic printing presses. We use odorless, food-safe water-based inks to print logos and designs. An automated color-sensing system ensures color consistency and precision, maintaining stable quality even for large-volume orders.

Step 3: Slitting and High-Precision Die-Cutting
After printing, the large paper rolls are slit into narrower rolls and fed into automatic die-cutting machines. We use custom, high-precision molds to cut the paper into cup blanks, with dimensional tolerances strictly controlled within ±0.5 mm. Burr-free edges ensure the blanks feed smoothly into high-speed cup-forming machines, effectively preventing paper jams.
Step 4: Dual Quality Inspection
After the removal of waste edges, all cup blanks undergo a dual-stage inspection process. We rigorously inspect for issues such as pinholes, poor coating adhesion, paper cracks, and dimensional deviations, ensuring that all non-conforming products are eliminated prior to shipment.
Step 5: Moisture-proof Export Packaging and Logistics
Finished cup blanks are neatly stacked and wrapped in stretch film. We offer flexible packaging options, including high-strength, moisture-proof cartons or secure mounting on export pallets. Our factory is strategically located near the Pinglu Canal, which effectively reduces transit times and lowers logistics costs for shipments to ports worldwide.
Every stage of production is designed to provide your paper cup manufacturing line with consistently high-quality, reliable cup blanks. We can also adjust specifications to meet your specific requirements. Please contact us to request samples or a customized quote.
